Turner Industries Simplifies Google Workspace Identity Management with JumpCloud

Turner Industries, a leading heavy  industrial contractor, modernized its technology environment by moving from a traditional legacy infrastructure to Google Workspace.

While this migration improved collaboration across the organization, it also introduced a new challenge: managing identities across Google Workspace, SaaS applications, legacy systems, Windows devices, and Chromebooks.

To simplify identity management and improve the employee experience, Turner deployed JumpCloud. By integrating JumpCloud with Google Workspace, the company established a single identity across its technology environment, secured its mixed-device fleet, reduced password-related support requests, and gave employees a more consistent way to access the tools they need.

Here are some key impacts at a glance:

Rolled out JumpCloud identity services and single sign-on in under 90 days

Unified access across Google Workspace, SaaS applications, and legacy systems.

Simplified password management and reduced account lockouts.

Consolidated multiple MFA experiences into a single workflow.

About Turner Industries

Headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Turner Industries is a family-owned industrial contractor celebrating 65 years of service. The company provides maintenance, turnaround, construction, project management, and skilled craft services to the companies that produce fuel, energy, and materials essential to modern life. With tens of thousands of employees working across multiple U.S. locations and time zones, Turner requires secure and reliable access to business systems around the clock.

The Challenge: Modernizing the Workplace

In 2022, a major software renewal prompted Turner Industries to reevaluate its long-term technology strategy.

While rising licensing costs initiated the discussion, leadership quickly recognized the opportunity to modernize collaboration and reduce dependency on legacy infrastructure. The company also wanted to avoid accumulating additional technology debt and position the organization for the future.

As a result, leadership selected Google Workspace as the foundation for its collaboration strategy, completing the migration of Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, Drive, and other core collaboration services in less than five months.

The Solution: Unifying Identity Across GWS and Business Applications

Following the Google Workspace migration, employees worked across a combination of Google’s ecosystem, SaaS applications, legacy business systems, Chromebooks, and Windows devices.

With identities spread across multiple platforms, password synchronization between systems became increasingly complex. Users often encountered issues depending on where credentials had been changed. Access problems, account lockouts, and password-related support requests created friction for employees. It became a recurring source of help desk requests.

Turner began evaluating several identity solutions and discovered JumpCloud through Google’s Work Transformation Set (WTS) program. Leadership immediately saw an opportunity to unify identities across Workspace, SaaS applications, and legacy systems. By integrating JumpCloud with Google Workspace, the company established a single identity across its environment. Google Workspace continued to serve as the primary collaboration platform, while JumpCloud centralized identity, authentication, and access management.

The IT team completed the deployment in less than three months.

JumpCloud allowed us to establish a single, unified identity across Google Workspace, our legacy on-premises applications, and all of our active SaaS platforms.

The Impact

1. Reducing Friction for Employees

For Turner, one of the most important goals of modernization was improving the employee experience.

The company operates 24/7 across multiple locations and time zones. Employees need reliable access to systems and applications regardless of when or where they are working.

Before JumpCloud, users often had to navigate different authentication experiences and overcome the challenges created by fragmented identity systems. With Google Workspace and JumpCloud working together, employees now enjoy a more consistent experience across the organization.

Every user now has one set of credentials for accessing business resources. Single sign-on simplifies access to cloud applications, while self-service password resets reduce dependence on the help desk. JumpCloud also helps Turner standardize multi-factor authentication across systems, replacing multiple authentication experiences with a more consistent approach.

For a workforce operating 24/7, reducing this digital friction has been one of the most valuable outcomes of the project.

Operating a 24/7 enterprise means ensuring our employees can work without digital friction. Combining Google Workspace and JumpCloud gives them a seamless, single-portal login experience so they can focus on their jobs instead of fighting technology roadblocks.

2. Centralizing Cross-OS Device Management and Endpoint Security

Centralizing Cross-OS Device Management and Endpoint Security beyond directory management, Turner’s distributed hardware footprint presented operational vulnerabilities. The company required an efficient system to manage a shifting mix of Windows laptops and Google Chromebooks deployed throughout the workforce.

By layering JumpCloud directly over Google Workspace, Turner successfully unified identity management and endpoint coordination. This operational consolidation allows the IT team to seamlessly oversee their mixed fleet, utilizing JumpCloud to manage devices regardless of the operating system, while continuing to manage ChromeOS within Google Workspace.

IT administrators now enforce security configuration policies, deploy crucial system patches, and distribute remote updates globally. This ensures that endpoints remain strictly compliant and secure without introducing friction into the employee workflow.

3. Helping IT Focus on Higher-Value Work

The benefits extend beyond end users. Prior to deploying JumpCloud, the IT team spent a significant amount of time responding to password resets, account lockouts, and other access-related requests.

Today, instead of spending valuable time responding to repetitive access issues, the team has gained the capacity to focus on security initiatives, operational improvements, and projects that support the broader business.

For Turner, one of the clearest measures of success has been the ability to move beyond reactive support and spend more time driving progress.

By automating access control and self-service password resets with JumpCloud and Google, our IT team is no longer trapped in an endless cycle of reactive help desk tickets.

Looking Ahead

Turner Industries’ modernization journey began with a reassessment of its traditional technology environment, but it ultimately became an opportunity to introduce a new way to manage identity and devices.

Google Workspace modernized collaboration, and JumpCloud unified identity across cloud and legacy systems.

Together, these platforms help Turner simplify Google Workspace identity management, improve the employee experience, reduce operational friction, and give IT more time to focus on strategic priorities.

As the company continues evolving its technology environment, it now has a modern foundation that supports both current needs and future innovation.
