This policy governs the management of AirPlay settings on Mac computers, allowing organizations to control how content is streamed and shared across the network. By configuring this policy, administrators can enhance security by restricting unauthorized connections and ensure a standardized, productive environment for media sharing and presentations.
Prerequisites:
- This policy is supported on Mac computers running macOS 11 and later.
- Apple Mobile Device Management (MDM) must be configured for your organization and Mac computers must be enrolled in JumpCloud MDM. See Set up Apple MDM.
- Mac computers must have network connectivity and be within range of authorized AirPlay destinations.
Creating the Policy
To create the policy:

- Log in to the JumpCloud Admin Portal.
- Go to Device Management > Policy Management.
- In the All tab, click (+).
- On the New Policy panel, select the Mac tab.
- Search and select AirPlay from the list, then click configure.
- (Optional) In the Policy Name field, enter a new name for the policy or keep the default. Policy names must be unique.
- (Optional) In the Policy Notes field, enter details such as creation date of the policy, and information on testing and deployment of the policy.
Configuring the Policy
To configure the AirPlay settings:
- Allowed AirPlay Destinations: Choose to define a specific set of devices that a Mac is permitted to connect to. If this list is present, the user can only AirPlay to the destinations specified here.
- For macOS 14 and earlier, set a Device ID (MAC Address):
- Device ID (MAC Address) - Enter the unique hardware MAC address to identify the receiver on the network.
Note: This field has been deprecated in macOS 15.
- Device ID (MAC Address) - Enter the unique hardware MAC address to identify the receiver on the network.
- For macsOS 15 and later, set a Device Name:
- Device Name - Enter the visible name of the destination as it appears in the AirPlay menu. This is now the required identifier for newer OS versions.
- For macOS 14 and earlier, set a Device ID (MAC Address):
- AirPlay Destination Passwords: Pre-configure passwords for known destinations to prevent manual password prompts during an AirPlay session.
- Device ID / MAC Address (macOS 14 and earlier) - Use the hardware MAC address for older systems.
Note: This field is deprecated for macOS 15. - Device Name (macOS 15 and later) - Provide the exact name of the destination device this password applies to.
- Password - Enter the alphanumeric password required to authorize the AirPlay connection.
- Device ID / MAC Address (macOS 14 and earlier) - Use the hardware MAC address for older systems.
Applying the Policy
To apply and save the policy:
- (Optional) Select the Device Groups tab. Select one or more device groups where you want to apply this policy. For device groups with multiple OS member types, the policy is applied only to the supported OS.
- (Optional) Select the Devices tab. Select one or more devices where you want to apply this policy.
- Click Save. If prompted, click Save again. The policy configuration settings are applied automatically and do not require a system restart.
